We're suffering in the Ice Storm right now (I'm near Montreal) so getting the message out has been difficult...

Please consider contacting " " (our webmaster for http://www.cool.ca) in Winnipeg and encouraging him with some concrete assistance for the Cool.ca site... it should be operating as a helpful site to assist Eastern Canadians hit by the Ice Storm.

Basically we have a similar situation to last years' flood in Manitoba...

We need to RECOGNIZE & REWARD the many volunteers who continue to assist in this crisis. (people are freezing to death, and others are killing themselves by running gas motors and barbeques inside!)

And we need to give Canadians AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP DIRECTLY.

Unlike last year's Flood, there was NO PREPARATION for this disaster, and people can survive being wet, but they can't survive being cold.

The comfort needs of people are being met by the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and The Armed Forces and many local community organizations... but the immediate need is for FIREWOOD and CLEARING THE HAZARDS. Hydro Quebec, The Army and Municipal Crews cannot do it all... WE HAVE TO PITCH IN to alleviate the pressure on these crews...

Today, the Cool 4X4 is out, loaded up with a generator, a chainsaw, and a tree pruner, driving around, giving people about an hour of electricity (via extension cord) to run their furnace, a few lights etc. and cut some of the branches away from power lines, threatening houses, or blocking driveways.

But not everyone can help physically...

We need to TELL PEOPLE WHAT THEY CAN DO TO HELP FROM A DISTANCE...

We need

1. GENERATORS (any size)
2. CHAINSAWS
3. TREE TRIMING EQUIPMENT

These items (in any condition, hopefully working) can be sent to:

C'est Cool d'etre Canadien Emergency Warehouse
2432 Chemin de la Gare
Val-Morin, Quebec, Canada
J0T 2R0

(Make sure the equipment is tagged to be returned, or if it is a donation)

This equipment is then placed in our Cool to be Canadian volunteer 4x4's and they drive off to help whoever they can.

If people don't have any useful equipment to send, they could help with gas money, equipment repair costs etc. by sending cash donations to the non-profit corporation via one of these addresses:

Stay Cool, (but keep warm!)
